MY VIRTUAL ROCK COLLECTION

First First, FIRST...

Have I told you folks lately that you are so wonderful to leave me your encouraging, uplifting comments each day? You truly have no idea how you boost my spirits! I dont' always get to say thankyou and often even friends who live right here in town (yes, you Beck, Beck) I don't get a moment to take out to say it... so here goes THANK YOU!!!

Well, did I ever have fun creating these rocks! Honestly - these are 100% digitally created. I've used them in a layout below, here in my blog, to give you an example of how they might be used. It's such a challenge every day to come up with a different element but somehow it always happens. Ok, MOST of the time it happens - I confess that once in an eensy while my thinker fails me and Mr. Miles has to come to my rescue (though when first asks there's a little groan - he LOVES to make 'em for me but I usually ask him when he's under a severe deadline hisself) I remember telling him one day that making me elements was speaking my 'love language' (hows that for putting pressure on through reverse psycology...)

If you are not clear on what I mean by Love Language, I am speaking about a concept coined by Dr. Gary Chapman and its like this:

What are the five love languages?

Words ofAffirmation, Gifts, Acts of Service, Quality Time, and Physical Touch. Out of those five, eachof us has a primary love language which speaks to us most deeply. Seldom do a husband andwife have the same love language. We tend to speak our love language and become confused
when our spouse doesn’t understand. We’re expressing love, but the message does not come through because we are speaking what to them is a foreign language.

He is hugging and kissing her, when she wants acts of service. She wants quality time when he is giving her gifts. She is cooking meals and washing clothes, when he wants physical touch. On and on it goes. We are missing each other because we are speaking the wrong love language. If you want emotional love to return to your marriage, learn to speak the primary love language
of your spouse.

Miles and I have used Dr. Chapman's resources many times in our marriage - and reccomend them often. If you would like to know more you can check out Dr. Chapman's site where you can listen to an audio introduction or even print of some information in PDF form. His books are a very worthwhile investment into the most important relationship you have!

When Pastor Ed and Judy were over, we were talking about young engaged couples who require counselling. During the discussion were were trying to think of questions that a young couple could ask of an older married couple to find out what are the ingredients of a good, strong marriage. We also were wondering what scenarios could be worked up for the young couple to imagine 'what if' - by this, I mean like this: You've been married for a year and a half now. You have a six month old baby. Baby has colic. Moms tired. Dads stressed from his job. Dad had a date set up with 'the boys' to watch the superbowl at his freind's house. What would you say to each other?

Can you think of some scenarios that we might pose for young folks so they can face these situations BEFORE marriage, that they might better prepare?

ROCKIN ROCKS - yep, they're mine!

Today and tomorrow I will leave you some little thoughts to ponder...

DO YOU EVER WONDER?

If people from Poland are called Poles, why aren't people from Holland called Holes?

Why do we say something is out of whack? What's a whack?

If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled?

If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?

When someone asks you, A penny for your thoughts, and you put your two cents in, what happens to the other penny? Or do you get change?

Why is the man (or woman) who invests all your money called a broker?

Why do croutons come in airtight packages? It's just stale bread to begin with.

Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist but a person drives a race car not called a racist?

Why are a wise man and a wise guy opposites?

Why do overlook and oversee mean opposite things?

Why isn't 11 pronounced onety one?

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn'tit follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked, and dry cleaners depressed?

  9. Had to d/l the rocks. They are so cool. Everytime a friend goes to another state,I ask them to bring me back a native rock from that state. Kinda like people who collect spoons for different states but I collect the rocks. Since I don't seem to get out of my home state, I have to get my friends to bring them to me. And they actually do it. Doesn't cost them anything but a little bit of their time. I guess now, I will have to collect virtual rocks. :)
    TFS. The rocks are awesome.

  10. First off let me say WOW those rocks are wonderful! I was going to go out and take aphoto of some rocks in my yard but you just saved me some time! heehee Now I totally agree with you on the love languages. Some of us even have combos so it can be really hard to remember.

As to the new couple one. Here's one I see a lot with my friends that are newly married:
You and your spouce are out to dinner with another couple, but they are your spouces friends not yours. You are feeling left out/excluded from the conversation. What do you do?

This has happened to me a few times and I try to jump in or signal my hubby and he's good about including me or explaining. But I've been on the other side and tried to include the spouce. We had one friend who's spouce made them stop being friends with people so she wouldn't be excluded.

    Hugs,
    Amy
