Yes, I got a haircut. Well actually - I GAVE me a haircut. Right, I keep seeing the commercial thats running on our local station. The one with the guy who's buffing his car, the disheveled looking neighbor comes up, coffee cup in hand and makes some crack to the guy about his car being "cheap". The guy looks up, annoyed and says: "my car is actually new but inexpensive... and then he barks at the coffee cup guy- "YOU cut your OWN hair, now THATS cheap!" (and we get a view of the back of the coffee cup guy's head - there's like this big bald chunk cut out of the center) Ouch!

Well, I don't consider myself 'cheap', though I do love to save my pennies for things that I would rather sink my money into. I used to always go to a hairdresser - never DARED touch my own hair. Except for my bangs. Boy, I sure used to mess them up and good! I'd wind up having to have a hairdresser 'repair' my damage which meant usually having really short, dumb looking bangs. You know the kind.

Anyways, as my true hair color began to fade, and as we camped almost every single summer, with little money and no hopes of a hairdresser, I learned to not only color, but cut my own hair. Little by little I gained confidence - now it takes no time at all. And now, while I CAN afford to go to a salon, I actually like how I cut and color my own hair. Because I like a style thats sort of layered and thinned, its very simple for me to do a bit of trimming right after I color it. I have it down to a science.

So, do YOU cut or color your own hair? Any tips you would like to share with me?

Note: I cannot cut my man's hair. We've tried that a few times in desperation on vacation, but its FAR wiser to have a professional go at his handsome scalp.

And I guess I must have spring-cleaning fever, for once I finished with my head, I went at the house for 10 hours of intensive cleaning, which involved moving EVERY stick of furniture and vacuuming and rearranging furniture. Have any of you had this urge of late? Or is it just me...

I want to mention that if you are looking for something new and yummy to make for lunches, Ariel has a fantastic Three Cheese and Broccoli Calzones recipe on her baking and books blog - with her first own video instructions. I think I may try these, they look easy! Just click HERE to visit.

Am I having fun OR WHAT? I've been having a ball playing with KimB's ROCHE kit, its the second in a 'friends' series of her kits - and its positively BEAUTIFUL! Kim hosted a card I created and I'm hoping to publish some more projects in the future as well - all sorts of ideas brewing! Hop on over to KIMB'S place to find out how to buy this SWEET kit for your collection!

Last, but not least, here's an 8 x 8" QP for your enjoyment. My DEAR friend Valinda made it using my Soft Birthday Wishes kit and I added a few of KimB's Commercial use items on it as well. Please, rather than thank me here, skip on over to Valinda's to see the lovely layout she made with this QP - featuring her adorable grand-daughter! Thank you, Valinda!

  3. I´m seeing a lot of spring cleaning going on in the blogs these days. Must be in the air...
No, I NEVER cut my own hair. I have such fine, thin hair , so I can´t afford to make a mistake....there's nothing to cover it! But good for you, for learning that. I like your new cut!

  4. Good Morning Barb:)
I LOVE your haircut!!:) I too cut and dye my hair.I use to cut my youngest Son's hair until I taught his wife to do it. I taught Robby how to trim hair and HE does his wife's and girls now...and he does a great job too!:)
Speaking of dying hair...I really need to do mine again. My hair grows soo fast and my age is showing.LOL I think if I let my hair grow out without dying it..I would be as gray as Jim. I prefer to conceal my wisdom for a while longer.hehe
Thank you so much for sharing your birthday kit with us.I LOVE it..it's sooo pretty.:)
I will have to try those calzones. We use to make them when I worked as an Asst.Mgr at Pizza Hut..years and years ago.It was really easy then cause we made the dough ahead of time that day.LOL
No..I haven't gotten into the furniture moving mood yet!LOL I have been organizing drawers and closets though.:)Jim helped me Wednesday to do our closet. We sorted and combined etc..to make it more organized. Now the bedroom needs help cause I have boxes etc..that need to go to the thrift store.I don't even want to see what mess the garage is in.That's for a warmer day.:)We need to clean the carpets again. We have a shampooer and when we get the chance...THEN we will move the furniture.LOL

    Have a wonderful weekend!!

    Love and hugs,
    Valinda

  7. I think your hair looks fabulous!! I did some spring cleaning, too..check out my whole new blog! It's SO bare right now. lol http://relocateddixiegirl.com/blog/

Anywho...I cut my younger boys' hair. Since they get buzzed, it's easy peasy. I stick em in the tub (when it's cold out) & break out the clippers. My oldest & my hubby--not so much. I let them go to a barber. Shane (oldest DS) is 14 & at the age where Mama cutting his hair is just WRONG (lol) & Nick (da hubs)..I just can't get the fade right on him & him being military & all...well......yeah. But cut my own hair? Ohh nooooo I used to do my bangs (then have to go get them fixed) but DH has colored my hair. I like thick chunky streaks & we can't do that so I have Heather for that. Heather is my hair chick. hehe Have a great one now that I've rambled on & on & on.

  8. Wow!!! You are brave! I could NEVER cut my own hair.... I have a hard enough time just brushing through it!! LOL! I CAN however cut my hubby's hair... I just prefer NOT too.... hee hee! I have tried cutting my girls' hair before... and it's just never straight... no matter what I do. Soooo.... luckily, my sister in law is GREAT at cutting hair... and she just does everybody's hair in the family! (no charge) Woohoo! You did a great job on yours btw.... too bad you're not closer... I could pick on YOU to take care of my hairy crew. Love the qp... thanks for sharing! Hope you have a fun weekend planned. HUGS for ya!

  9. OOOH you did a GREAT job on your hair- and yeah, I've been cutting hair since I was in Grade 10 lol- that's quite a few years.
I cut my own when it's still short and do the highlights too if I am desperate and Andrew is full ( usually because I phone him tooo late- hahaha).
Do Nathans and Waynes and all the *men friends* hair too.
Was actually offered an apprenticeship with one of our BIG hairdressers here before I had completed school- that was after he saw my sisters *wierd modern* cut on the airplane while sitting next to him! He asked who cut her hair and she pointed at me- hee hee.
I turned him down as I wanted to study my art. I don't regret it as I still do it as a hobby in a way ;-)
It's another *creative outlet* hee hee.

Thanks so much for the blurb about my Roche kit and girl your card is STUNNING!! The Valinda QP is just beautiful too! WOW-

sheee's here I am yakking away and filling up your blog again- HAHAHAHA
ok- off to get coffee and watch some TV with my *boy*- hate weekends without hubby- boo hoo!
    (((HUGS)))
p.s Thanks for the kind words and prayers for my mom-
