I received the following poem via email from my friend and fellow Artist Mina - thought it would be a good day to share it with you all - you may want to share it with someone you know too!

TO A PHENOMENAL WOMAN

When I was in my younger days,
I weighed a few pounds less,
I needn't hold my tummy in
to wear a belted dress.
But now that I am older,
I've set my body free;
There's comfort of elastic
Where once my waist would be.
Inventor of those high-heeled shoes
My feet have not forgiven;
I have to wear a nine now,
But used to wear a seven.

And how about those blasted tights --
They're sized by weight, you see,
So how come when I put them on
The crotch is at my knee?
I need to wear these glasses
As the print's been getting smaller;
And it wasn't very long ago
I know that I was taller.
Though my hair has turned to grey
and my skin no longer fits,
the outside's changed a bit.

But, on a positive note... I've learned that no matter what
happens, or how bad it seems today,
life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.
I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/
she handles these three things:
a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your
parents, you'll miss them when they're gone from your life.

I've learned that making a "living" is not the same thing as making
a "life."
I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.
I've learned that you shouldn't go through life just being a
doormat. You need to be able to throw something back.
I've learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I
usually make the right decision.
I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.

I've learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone.
People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.
I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will
forget what you did,
but people will never forget how you made them feel.

1608 - The first telescope was demonstrated by Hans Lippershey of Middelburg.

1780 - John Andre, a British army officer during the American War of Independence, was executed as a spy.

1835 - The first battle of the Texas Revolution took place as American settlers defeated a Mexican cavalry near the Guadalupe River.

1836 - The British naturalist Charles Darwin returned to Falmouth, England, aboard the HMS Beagle, ending a five-year surveying expedition of the southern Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Visiting such diverse places as Brazil, the Galapagos Islands, and New Zealand, Darwin acquired an intimate knowledge of the flora, fauna, wildlife, and geology of many lands. The Ecuadorian Galapagos Islands was Darwin's most important research area.

1901 - The first submarine commissioned by the British Navy was launched from Barrow.

1919 - President Wilson suffered a stroke that left him partially paralyzed.

1928 - At Victor Records Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, DeFord Bailey cut eight masters. Three songs were issued, in what was the first studio recording sessions in the place known now as Music City, USA.

1929 - Debuting on NBC radio was "The National Farm and Home Hour". The program gave rural Americans information about farm products, growing crops, farm animal care and useful household tips. The show opened with "The Stars and Stripes Forever". Featured were Don Ameche and Raymond Edward Johnson, music and entertainment by The Cadets male quartet, Jack Baus and The Cornbusters and Mirandy of Persimmons Holler. Montgomery Ward sponsored "The National Farm and Home Hour".

1937 - 26-year old Ronald Reagan made his acting debut with the Warner Brothers release of "Love is in the Air".

1939 - Benny Goodman and his six-man-band recorded "Flying Home" for Columbia Records. Fletcher Henderson played the piano on this classic. Later the song became a hit and a signature piece for Lionel Hampton, who also played on the original version.

1944 - The International Arts Guild was formed in London to encourage interaction among artists of all nations.

1950 - The comic strip "Peanuts," created by Charles Schulz, debuted in nine newspapers with the characters of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Patty and Sherman. It is now the most-read comic strip in the world.

1953 - On CBS, Friday nights were "Person to Person" nights from now on. Edward R. Morrow, a lit cigarette in hand, premiered the interview program. The popular show would establish Morrow as a television icon.

1955 - Alfred Hitchcock, master of mystery movies, gave millions of CBS viewers his brand of suspense. For the next 10 years, Hitchcock, the man who put the thrill in thriller would scare viewers each week with "Alfred Hitchcock Presents".

1959 - Rod Serling's science-fiction anthology, The Twilight Zone, first aired on CBS. It was the most acclaimed science-fiction anthology program ever created for televison, and became the industry's benchmark. It won three Emmies and a score of other awards.

1968 - California's Redwood National Park was established.

1998 - Gene Autry, Hollywood's original singing cowboy and former owner of the Anaheim Angels, died at age 91.
