I've created today's tapes to tickle the fancy of my dear Sister-In-Law, Judy who is going through a lot right now. She and my brother have made a decision to downsize their life, selling their home of many, many years and moving into a big RV - a radical change in their life and lifestyle. They still have a young'un at home, my sweet niece Melissa - and this is really a big step for her. May God Bless you all during this time! "Not nearly as interesting as your friend's lightning stories (although I had a modem fried by lightning through the phone line. Weird because it went through Dh's puter first and didn't effect his but fried mine.): A couple weeks ago, we were getting a bit of a storm. At the exact same moment, we saw the lightning and heard the thunder (making my DD and myself jump & look at each other). My 17yo DS came downstairs to tell us he just saw the coolest thing: When the lightning hit, it apparently hit a pole across the street from us. No damage, fire, etc. but he said it was the "hugest" ball of fire he'd ever seen...and it was totally random that he happened to be looking out his window at that exact moment."

I'm reading a good book right now, it's called Tree - A life Story by David Suzuki (illustrated by Robert Bateman) and it's just fascinating. I learned a neat fact about the Pink Lady Slipper flower from it:
Lady Slippers tempt bees into landing on it's big, overhanging lower lip of it's pink flower, whereupon the upper lip closes and traps the bee inside. The bee struggles to get out and as it does it bumps into the flowers anther stem, picking up a headful of pollen, which, after the bee gets away, may deposit it onto another flower. Pretty cool, hey?

Yesterday I promised to share the lightening story when I recieved permission from my friend Mavis to do so. This is what has happened to her in past lightening storms - a real eye-opener to those of you who may scoff at the dangers of an electrical storm!
"A few years ago lightning hit a power pole at the commercial building next to our home. It knocked out two TV's, our computer, two surge protectors, scanner and telephone.
When the power surge fried our computer it also travelled through the phone line and destroyed the modem according to the computer repair person who handled our insurance claim.
Another time I was lying down on the couch and a lightning bolt came through a power outlet and went above my body into the outlet on the other side. Lightning also travels through telephone lines. Don't talk on the phone during a storm, we have had lighting "ring" our phone numerous times."

WOW! - thats a lot of designers contributing to this one layout!
I have a personal hint for you IF you use PS and are creating a layout which uses a lot of different bits of kits... I've found its hard, if not impossible to remember who all's stuff you used unless you make a note. Yes, we all keep the pen and paper at hand, and thats great at the time... but there's a better way. PS has a feature called notes - its the little icon 10th down on the left side row of icons. If you click on it you can add a 'note' to your layout. I put all the info on all the kits, fonts etc there... that way, later I can open my note and copy and paste all that valuable info whereever I want. The notes DO NOT show up in any jpg files you save - so don't worry you might have a little icon in the middle of your jpg pics. You can also create audio notes - which is handy too. Practice and you will wonder how you lived without this feature!
PRETTIES!
Yesterday was a day for learning the things I can do to keep our place in ship-shape - all sorts of maintainence jobs and things I can do while outside walking about. Bonnie and I spent a big portion of our morning exploring the lakeshore. We found some interesting things bumping up against the shore, including several bottles, a beer can and a stinky 'ol carp! This thing must have wieghed close to 20 lb, I would think... She brought it out of the water using a stick and left it to melt back into the ground. Hauling big carps around is good exercise!
My exersize consisted of raking and moving some gravel up a road which had washed away in our big rainstorm. There was a virtual canyon dug down the center of the road and all the nice crushed gravel created a mound at the first bit of level ground. I put my shoulders into shovelling some of it back up the hill so it could be graded smooth later. The road looks good as new today, as it got graded later on.
My friend Becks came out later on and we took a walk (in my pajamas, no less! - I'd had a bath after my shovelling and with it being such a bleak cold day, I was drawn to my 'fuzzer' jammies...) Later, I was Beck's practice model for her to try out an external flash. She has some upcoming photography jobs. I sat and read her all of the great ideas from a back issue of Martha Stewart while she snapped away! Today is Beck's last day at her OFFICIAL job. She's leaning on the Lord to provide what she needs and is excited to see what's in store for her future. Won't you slip by and leave a word of encouragement for her at her blog? Her blog's always got a good word for YOU!

Just a wee entry today, Lassies and Laddies (I like to drive Miles nuts with my fake accents some days, he,he!) Must be something left over from my childhood. My Stepmother was a transplant from England, so I'm quite profficient at the Queen's English... truly, one day I'm going to have a 'high tea' of my own right here!
SOME NICE, LOCAL, WILDFLOWER...
The storm was devastating yesterday! Some of Miles students were missing from school as they had to do damage control and repair to their properties. The rain came with such fury that it almost completely eroded their flowerbeds... and it washed all that topsoil down to, and across, the road - right into the basement of a parent of another student - flooding it entirely! I've had another accounting of the flooding and a terrific local lightening story - just waiting for permission to share with you!
Some thoughts for your day, for all of you, but specially for my friend Becky, who's at a point in her life where she's getting to see God working in her life day by day right now. I'm soooo excited to see what door He's opening up for you - because you trusted Him enough to give control over to Him. Looking forward to seeing you today, my friend.

I have to put in this little snippet my Mother in Law said when they left here... not looking forward to the long drive home, she said "I wish I could just wiggle my nose, and be home"... I dunno, I thought that was SO cute. Reminds me of when we were little and watched Bewitched, or I Dream of Genie - do you remember these shows?
I was forwarded a very good message from my friend Marie. It does not say where it originated. I thought it was a great one to share with you:
Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.
This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain.
It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar or rapist won't stick around.... After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that.
And, remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there..... This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

WINDMILL - OSOYOOS, BC
This windmill has been around for a long, long time. I can remember my Grandmother buying bread which had been ground and baked in it. Today, it's an ice cream parlour and part of an amusement park called Rattlesnake Canyon. It's got all sorts of fun things to do - mini golf, rides, water bumper boats (I know theres a name for 'em) and other rides. The owner spoke to us briefly before we went in to try one of the 48 flavors... and he said there's still all the workable fixins' inside the top of the mill which the bakery etc... and it could one day function as such, but probably never will. :( Too bad, it was good bread.

GOD'S ALARM CLOCK!
Well, all my own ideas for blogging got shoved to the back this morning, in light of the FANTASTIC lightening storm we experienced first thing this morning. It began about 6 a.m. and lasted for about a good hour. Miles and I sat in the safety of our patio and watched it unfold all around us. We managed to capture it for you in photos and ...
MILES & MICROTRAK
Miles was busy with his little microtrak recorder while I was busy with the camera. Gina - this is specially for YOU... he captured the fury of the lightening and also the pattern of the rain on the roof. The recorder does an amazing job! RAIN ON THE ROOFTOPS!
While we were sitting on the patio watching the storm, it occured to me that I felt safe - and its how I would describe being in God's protection. The world is a storm raging all around us, while we can rest in the safety of His embrace. It reminds me of His POWER and MAJESTY - if He is FOR us, how can anyone be against us, really?

CLEANSING, REFRESHING RAIN!
Ok, so I run around all over the house unplugging almost every single appliance in our house. My grandmother, (bless your heart - how I miss you) - used to unplug at least her tv! Though it's never personally happened to me, I understand that an electrical storm can fry your appliances and computer equiptment in the blink of an eye - so its worth it! I did a bit of research on the internet to see if I'm just obsessive or if this holds merit, and I think I can safely say - unplug your stuff! Its well worth the few minutes investment of plugging and unplugging to keep your electronics safe! And if you don't take this advice, promise me you will at least not USE any equiptment during a storm? I care 'bout you!

I heard a very interesting article on NPR on Saturday morning. It was entirely about crickets and other insects, 77 in all, which sing. Why they sing etc... two authors have written a book on the subject. They give some sound samples on the article (Gina, you will love listening to this article!) I also listened to an article that my brother Barry and Sister Judy would be interested in - being the fishers that you are... its on the spread of a virus in fish in the northeastern states of USA. It sounds like its devastating to anglers and people who rely on them for people who take folks out to fish - and it's mostly been spread unwittingly by humans. You can listen to the article HERE

Great message during yesterday's message yesterday - very encouraging, coming out of both Job and Lamentations. Yes - imagine! Pastor assured us that tho God allows trials in our lives, they're for our good- though we can't see that, and we struggle instead of giving it up to Him. The following points are good to keep in your heart if you are going through the fire right now:
God is not against me. He doesn't WILLINGLY allow bad things to happen to me. He WANTS all my troubles to end!

The Lord wants to help us - He's waiting for you to ask Him... He can't help without your asking Him.

7 a.m. BOAT RIDE...
Yesterday WAS fun! Believe it or not, we were up and out on the lake by 7 a.m. with a friend for a ride in a boat. The water was a sheet of glass and the air was buttery soft. We were out for about an hour, making a large loop along the shores of our beautiful lake. It was an eye-opener to see all the development along the shores - you just can't see it all from the roads. It was thrilling to watch the shore slip by in a spray of water, glinting like diamonds!
If this were not enough, Miles took me to yard sales, where we scooped several 'treasures'. He was horrified as I 'bargained' with some folks for what he already considered a great deal - but was in admiration when they actually reduced the prices for me! Seemed like most sales yesterday were the type where no reasonable offer was refused. It was breakfast at McD's - yes, sad as it is, I crave a nice greasy, fattening sausage McMuffin someday!

And, then we drove east of town and up into the hills to get some photos of the beautiful wildflowers and critters. There are many new developments happening up among the hills to the east - and we were wowwed by how much our town is swelling. Pretty prestigious up there!
JUST STAY STILL FOR ONE... MORE... SECOND - GOTCHA!
I thought I might share some of my heart from this past week with you. This has been such a week of encouragement. Encouragement from you to me, and encouragement I find I've been receiving and unbeknown to me until now, giving. I had a dear friend sit next to me at the school and tell me that she found simply to sit next to me and soak up my presence, was encouraging to her. I can't tell you how this moved me... our friend is an older woman who has in her past, been a missionary in India for years in her past. She's a fount of Godly Wisdom and kind words and has been a complete inspiration to both Miles and I over the years. Lately she's been struggling - she's been feeling dry, very dry and uninspired, and uninspiring, we've all been there before. What a blessing to be used to 'whet' her... to whet her appetite for desire to be creative, to fellowship with me as a sister. What an honour the Lord would use me, a younger woman, with far less experience and knowledge, to encourage her at her time of need.
I've had several other gifts of encouragement over the past short while, and each time it's been like receiving a jewel. Won't you reach out to someone you know and encourage them? Whether its someone close to you, or someone you know barely - pray and ask the Lord to use you to bless someone's life. Ok, today is a day of 'firsts'. My FIRST first is that my blog is evolving. I've never before promoted a paid product on my blog before. I did this intentionally because I wanted to just share. Share my elements, share God's word, share tips, share ideas and I wanted it to be a place for you all to just fill up. Besides, it took me a long time to grow enough in my computer skills to reach the point that I would feel able to market my own 'stuff''. Well, the FREE stuff won't change - you'll always be able to visit for a daily free download (well, 'cept for the days I take off) but I may create some kits and elements for market too - and I need to be able to promote myself, right?
Also, my DEAR friend Sonya and our friend Katy have just launched their own store - and I'm so very proud of them that I simply can't NOT share. Their store, Kissed Studio will feature all sorts of templates. Sonya has been basically my mentor, scrap-wise and in so many ways, over the past few years. She added me to her chat after meeting me in a chat at Scrapbook-bytes and babysat me till now... I can't tell you how big of a job that must have been for her. I wish you and Katy every success, my friend!

FIRST PADDLE!
Today dawned crystal clear and calm. The lake lay like a sheet of glass at the foot of the mountains, and it beckoned us. Miles and I went for a good walk, while it was cool and as we stood looking out over the lake he asked if I would like to go for my first kayak today. O Yeah!!! I chose the yellow kayak which worked to my advantage, as his blue hand made one turned out to be more armwork. Luckily for Miles, he's been working out his arms at the gym regularly, and it enabled him to keep up to me, even when he had to catch up after encouraging me to go ahead. I made it all the way to the other side of the lake, and back! It was simply lovely gliding over the water...
FIRST SWIM!
The first of June, Hooray, Hooray, Out doors swimming starts today!
My friend Alicia made up this little ditty for me... though as she points out, one could substitute the word swimming for any word you would want, and change the month... at any rate, it was a perfect first swim day. Osoyoos Lake is Canada's warmest fresh water lake and it can get quite 'soupy' toward the end of summer. This time of the year its at its best - cool and lucsious, and not too busy with boats yet!
I have to tell you that yesterday I nearly choked out the staff of Mile's school. I was exeriencing hunger pangs and thought I might heat a frozen bun in the micro. I tossed it in, for 3 min on what I thought was defrost... next thing I know there are whisps of smoke furling out of the door. I raced over, ripped the offending blackness from inside and ran outoors and let it smoulder in an abandoned plant-pot... staff began arriving for the staff meeting... and the apologizing began. :
