little garden angel

I'm so glad – I've managed to clean out and organize several drawers and cupboards about the house in between the rest of life clamoring about me! What a good feeling this is. Things are settling into a routine again. The students are come back to the school, me among them – everyone safe and sound and eager to learn.

I feel like life is one giant multi-task these days. I'm being pressed on every side – but I keep reminding myself that ALL things are possible through our Lord. The bible tells us to be anxious in NOTHING (Phillipians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.) And isn't this so true? Being anxious robs us of the Joy in the moment. It causes us to live in another moment than the one we are in now. It causes us to be either living in the past, or worrying about the future, which won't change it. All it will do is create a negative tension which will reside inside you.

If you have worries or seemingly insurmountable tasks facing you today, if you have things or thoughts in your life which are hindering you from experiencing all the goodness God has in store for you today – won't you simply give each and every item to the Lord, in prayer? Write down each thing and petition Him for wisdom and discernment as to what is essential today, right now. In a few days, look back and see how He answered your requests. You will be amazed. Keep in mind, if you think your prayer was not answered, look again, for often our requests were not answered in a completely physical or literal way, but they HAVE been answered. Our God is good ALL THE TIME.

Don't be always putting off

The things you mean to do,

Answering that letter,

Picking up the phone,

Speaking to an absent friend

Who's feeling all alone.

Tackle one job every day,

That's waiting to be done -

A job that you've been putting off

A job that could be... FUN!

It's interesting how in this poem that the writer does not seem to be talking about 'housework' jobs or chores! Those things will get looked after... or not, but if you died tomorrow, what would you like to be remembered for having gotten crossed off THE list... dishes, dust bunnies, or coffee and visit with a dear friend?

garden he-angel

I came across this funny little item yesterday I just have to share with you – a little thing about when we 'assume' things:

There were once four people – Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but in the end Nobody did it. Somebody got very angry over this because it was really Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody would do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when actually Nobody had asked anybody.

I'm still working on a list of marriage related resources for you all – it will get done... sometime soon, I hope! In the meantime, I came across this marriage blessing from India which is beautiful:

Now for you, there is no rain

For one is shelter to the other.

Now for you, the sun shall not burn

For one is shelter to the other.

Now for you, nothing is hard or bad

For the goodness and badness is taken

By one for the other.

Now for you, there is no night

For one is light to the other.

Now for you, the snow has ended always

For one is protection for the other.

It is that way, from now on, from now on.

Now it is good and there is always food,

and now there is always drink,

And now there is comfort,

Now there is no loneliness.

(Is this how you make your spouse feel?)

It feels so odd – today is the first day my husband is back at school, after being home for several weeks. I'm missing him already! I know it sounds strange, but he IS my best friend and I never tire of his company. What is wrong with this marriage? LOL! Come on now, I know some of you are thinking this is entirely too wierd. This just happens in books and movies... but truly, I would spend every moment with him and enjoy it. I DO love having 'girl time' with friends and I DO love meeting people, but my husband is the one I always run to to share my day, share my thoughts, share my heart.

Having a good marriage gives me a heart for those who are not there just yet. Don't EVER give up hope, there is ALWAYS a way. I'm going to be praying for your marriages this week. I will lift your relationships up and I'm going to seek helpful resources for you. After all, the idea isn't to wait until Valentines Day and then suddenly spring out for chocolate/candy/flowers/pampering... these type of lavishments should be random, spontaneous – because real life does not follow a Calendar. Society sets aside special holidays to celebrate ideas, but really the ideas should be celebrated all year long!

*****

Well, it sounds like many of you, like me, have been launched into an early ‘spring cleaning’ whilst in the throes of packing Christmas away! Is it just me or does it seem like there are far more ornaments and knick knacks going back into the boxes than originally came out? Either this or someone hid some of my boxes on me... Our tree remains up but may get taken apart tomorrow, if I am feeling inspired.

*****

Boy the weather is menopaus-ish... going from cold to hotflushy (almost tropical feeling) to expecting cold again starting tomorrow. Well at least its not boring. The past few days have been so busy that I’ve not gotten actually out in the outside, merely observed from the comfort indoors. I need to get out! I was on a real baking spree the other day, whipping up a turkey, chili, cookies and a whole bunch of wonderful dishes which will give me some time off from the stove all this week.

I have an email I recieved from my friend Alicia which I’m sharing with you because I didn’t know this information. I had no idea there was a ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ way to forward emails. I only know that I’m careful, meaning some emails did not get read if I did not trust them. Thanks for sharing this Alicia – I always love good advice!

HOW TO FORWARD E-MAIL APPROPRIATELY

A friend who is a computer expert received the following directly from a system administrator for a corporate system. It is an excellent message that ABSOLUTELY applies to ALL of us who send e-mail. Please read the short letter below, even if you’re sure you already follow proper procedures.

Do you really know how to forward e-mails? 50% of us do; 50% DO NOT.

Do you wonder why you get viruses or junk mail? Do you hate it?

Every time you forward an e-mail there is information left over from the people who got the message before you, namely their e-mail addresses & names. As the messages get forwarded along, the list of addresses builds, and builds, and builds, and all it takes is for some poor sap to get a virus, and his or her computer can send that virus to every e-mail address that has come across his computer. Or, someone can take all of those addresses and sell them or send junk mail to them in the hopes that you will go to the site and he will make five cents for each hit. That’s right, all of that inconvenience over a nickel!

How do you stop it? Well, there are several easy steps:

  • When you forward an e-mail, DELETE all of the other addresses that appear in the body of the message (at the top). That’s right, DELETE them. Highlight them and delete them, backspace them, cut them, whatever it is you know how to do. It only takes a second. You MUST click the “Forward” button first and then you will have full editing capabilities against the body and headers of the message. If you don’t click on “Forward” first , you won’t be able to edit the message at all.

  • Whenever you send an e-mail to more than one person, do NOT use the To: or Cc: fields for adding e-mail addresses. Always use the BCC : (blind carbon copy) field for listing the e-mail addresses. This is the way the people you send to will only see their own e-mail address. If you don't see your BCC option click on where it says To: and your address list will appear. Highlight the address and choose BCC and that's it, it's that easy. When you send to BCC your message will automatically say "Undisclosed Recipients" in the "TO:" field of the people who receive it.

  • Remove any "FW" in the Subject line. You can re-name the subject if you wish or even fix spelling.

  • ALWAYS hit your Forward button from the actual e-mail you are reading. Ever get e-mail that you have to open 10 pages to read the one page with the information on it? By Forwarding from the actual page you wish someone to view, you stop them from having to open many e-mails just to see what you sent.

  • Have you ever gotten an email that is a petition? It states a position and asks you to add your name and address and to forward it to 10 or 15 people or your entire address book. The email can be forwarded on and on and can collect thousands of names and email addresses. A FACT: The completed petition is actually worth a couple of bucks to a professional spammer because of the wealth of valid names and e-mail addresses contained therein. If you want to support the petition, send it as your own personal letter to the intended recipient. Your position may carry more weight as a personal letter than a laundry list of names and email address on a petition. (Actually, if you think about it, who's supposed to send the petition in to whatever cause it supports? And don't believe the ones that say that the e-mail is being traced, it just aint so!)

  • One of the main ones I hate are the ones that say that something like, "Send this e-mail to 10 people and you'll see something great run across your screen." Or, sometimes they'll just tease you by saying something really cute will happen ... IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN!!!!! (Trust me, I'm still seeing some of the same ones that I waited on 10 years ago!) I don't let the bad luck ones scare me either, they get trashed. (Could be why I haven't won the lottery??)

  • Before you forward an Amber Alert, or a Virus Alert, or some of the other ones floating around nowadays, check them out before you forward them. Most of them are junk mail that's been circling the net for YEARS! Just about everything you receive in an e-mail that is in question can be checked out at Snopes. Just go to http://www.snopes.com/

Its really easy to find out if it's real or not. If it's not, please don't pass it on.

So please, in the future, let's stop the junk mail and the viruses.

Finally, here's an idea!!! Let's send this to everyone we know (but strip my address off first, please). This is something that SHOULD be forwarded.

I hope you found this useful! It was an eye-opener to me. I'm going to leave you with a few funny marriage type humour videos to brighten up your day! (YOU HAVE TO TURN YOUR VOLUME UP TO MAX FOR THE SECOND ONE!! its very quiet, but worth it!)

A New Year.

A fresh start.

2007 is no more, 2008 lays open before us like an unwritten page waiting to be filled. If you're an artist, like me, its a crisp, brand new piece of acid free, no less than 140 lb piece of paper waiting to recieve whatever medium I choose to 'paint' with. But before I ever touch a brush to the new surface I'll be drawing on the gift of what I learned in 2007 – wisdom from successes... and mistakes. One can't have one without the other, really. It takes some mistakes to make a true success. We are human, and so we will continue to make mistakes. Kind of a big thought, that no matter what I aim to do this year, I WILL make mistakes. Being human means there is no hope in being perfect – thats reserved for God alone and the best I can hope for is to become more like Him.

And it also occured to me that I am somehow glad of the snow we have to welcome in the new year. (other than being cold half the time) The landscape outside is covered in a fresh blanket of white – all plants lie sleeping under it. Forced mostly inside its a time to reflect and reorganize. A time to rethink everything. A time to really seek the Lord, and to pray for Him to reveal what journey I should travel this year. I pray He will give me discernment in all I say and do. When to speak, when to be silent. (thats a hard one for me sometimes – just ask my husband!)

2007 was a year of finding and losing things. We made new friends, and lost some friends too. Thats always painful, though it has to be sometimes. We had a shakeup in our Church which caused us to lose some friends and was a awful and wearying process, but this New Year finds us starting anew. We will pray for wisdom to not repeat mistakes made. We moved into a new home which is a paradise to us – which meant losing our old landlords – who were dear friends, but thats a good thing. We've remained friends and one has begun to come to the school, so we still get time together. We truly built some deeper friendships with people we already knew – the sort of friendships which are second only to family.

For 2008 my desire is to be more discerning. To spend more time in the WORD and to live forward – to focus not on my dreams and desires, but to lay them before the Lord and to allow Him to reveal only what is for the good of His kingdom. What I do know, is that I can't do it on my own – I need His (perfect) strength.

Proverbs 16:3

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

Let go of the old,

Reach out for the new,

For the past is cold,

And the future is due;

Each year holds memories,

Some happy – some sad,

We must treasure the good,

Let go of the bad;

Make the most of each day,

At work and at play,

For the old year is history,

The future – a mystery.

~ Phyliss Ellison

Ruby Christmas Kit
download

I am going to be taking some time away from the computer over the holidays - time to be with my husband and family. I want to thank you, all my blog-family, for your friendship and encouragement over this past year. I want to thank you for taking an interest in my life, and allowing God to use my blog to share with you. I never dreamed of where He would lead me today. I've grown so close to many of you! Thank you for the many gifts you've given ME - your many kind comments and just being there for me. Thank you most of all for keeping me accountable.

Thank you to Gail and Kevin for 'holding down the fort' for us during the next little while.

Speaking about gifts, I was reading a bit about the gifts which were brought to baby Jesus when he was born - Gold I readily understand, but was not quite sure on Frankincense and Myrrh. Turns out they are both resinous gums, which ooze out which ooze out from shrub-like trees in the Near East and the Mediterranean. Oils are then extracted from the gum - and the purest oils are extracted using steam distillation.

As a gift for Jesus, Frankincense was included because it symbolized his priesthood, his stature as a spiritual leader and teacher. Myrrh was given as a gift to Jesus as a symbol that he was born to die. Myrrh is so very antibacterial it was often used for embalming the dead as well as being burned at funerals to honor the dead.

I must get on with my gift wrapping etc, but I want to leave you with the following thoughts.

List of Priceless Gifts to Give:

To your enemy - forgiveness;
To your opponent - tolerence;
To your friends - your heart;
To your child - a good example;
To your father - deference;
To your mother - conduct that will make her proud;
To yourself - respect;
To all men - charity.

Be thankful -

for the friends who have forgiven you,
for the enemies who keep you cautious,
for the difficulties which make you struggle,
for the emergencies which make you think,
for the hardships which make you strong,
for the disappointments which make you try harder.

Gina's Little Snowman

download

I made this sweet little digitally hand-painted (meaning I painted it freehand using artrage and a wacom tablet) for my dear friend Gina. He's so cute that I had to take him out of the freezer to share with you this year. I wish I had something NEW for my friend Gina, as she has been so dear to me over this past year - but I'm sure she won't mind sharing me sharing him with you again. Why not slip over and leave a comment on Gina's blog for me instead of leaving one here - and check out her new header! Thanks for being a good friend to me Gina - Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I'd also like to wish my friend Becky a Merry, Merry Christmas. We've not spent time together for the last little bit of time, and I SORELY miss you!

Who can put a value on a friendship? Who can measure in any kind of terms just what true friendship is worth? True friendship does not require daily contact to keep it alive. Long time friends, who've been apart for years, can meet and pick up just where they left off. A man may lose everything, but if he is rich if he still has loyal and devoted friends. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote the following words - "a friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of nature."

To be rich in admiration and free from envy; to rejoice greatly in the good of others; to love with such generosity of heart that your love is still a dear possession in absence or unkindness - these are the gifts of fortune which money can buy nothing. He who has such a treasury of riches, being happy and valiant himself, in his own nature, will enjoy the universe as if it were his own estate; and help the man to whom he lends a hand to enjoy it with him. ~ Robert Lewis Stephenson

TWENTY THINGS TO REMEMBER

1. Faith is the ability to not panic.

2. If you worry, you didn't pray. If you prayed, don't worry.

3. As a child of God, prayer is kinda like calling home every day.

4. Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.

5. When we get tangled up in our problems, be still. God wants us to be still so He can untangle the knot.

6. Do the math. Count your blessings.

7. God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts.

8. Dear God: I have a problem. It's me.

9. Silence is often misinterpreted, but never misquoted.

10. Laugh every day -- it's like inner jogging.

11. The most important things in your home are the people.

12. Growing old is inevitable; growing up is optional.

13. There is no key to happiness. The door is always open. Come on in.

14. A grudge is a heavy thing to carry.

15. He who dies with the most toys is still dead.

16. We do not remember days, but moments. Life moves too fast, so enjoy your precious moments.

17. Nothing is real to you until you experience it; otherwise it's just hearsay.

18. It's all right to sit on your pity pot every now and again. Just be sure to flush when you are done.

19. Surviving and living your life successfully requires courage. The goals and dreams you're seeking require courage and risk-taking! Learn from the turtle, it only makes progress when it sticks out its neck.

20. Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting. Leave gentle fingerprints on the soul of others, for the angels to read.

I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I lived just the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well.

Live life to the fullest... & thank God for every moment of your day !!

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

Let it Snow

NEW DOWNLOAD LINK

I know that the link is experiencing difficulty - just found out, and am re-loading, this time to 4shared, but the link is slooooowww... so sorry... please check back in a short while, and I will have it reloaded as quickly as I can. I will also be posting Olivia's lovely LOVELY giveaway too! Thanks for your patience!

I hope you all don't mind me dusting off some of last years kits for giveaway! Seems like there is so little time this year, to be creating. I (and AmyW) have been mentoring my friend Olivia in Photoshop and the time just gets sucked up! Its totally worth it tho as she is coming along terrifically, in fact, the student shall surpass the teacher at this rate! She's just finished two amazing kits and she made me a giveaway for all of you tomorrow, to say thanks for all the hard work I've put into her! So be sure to check back tomorrow – it will be well worth it. I'm using Yousendit today because no matter which way I tried, 4shared would not let me publish my file - said it was a copyright issue or some such thing... anyone else experiencing difficulties?

Melanie Strings the Lights

Well the little Charlie Brown tree is all decorated, thanks to my dear friend Melanie. She's a whiz at stringing lights, plus her father is a fireman so she did it all with safety in mind. Me, I'd probably set us up to fry ourselves here...

I was extremely fortunate to find a bunch of wonderful vintage ornaments at the Thrift Store – Shiny Brites no less! They look wonderful. They go perfectly with the old Tulip Bubble lights passed to me by my Mother in Law. Warms my heart to know Miles would have enjoyed them growing up.

There's nothing like those vintage bulbs!

We keep getting snow, then it melts. Kinda nice for oh, bout a day, then it gets all slushy and then gone. Hopefully we will get some enough to stick. I've been trying to get outside to run a bit – I shouldn't, due to my knees but I love running – and I try to go on soft ground and slowly. I also think its important to get outside and get fresh air during these bleaker months too. Its easy to assume that because its winter conditions then you have to stay inside. Sure, folks who ski and snowboard etc get out but I'm talking locally. I was very interested to read an article at NPR about Jill Homer of Juneau, Alaska, who is training to ride 350 miles in the human-powered Iditarod. The race, which starts in February, follows the same route used by the famous dog sled teams – ON A BIKE.

Jill lists several pointers for riding a bike in the snow. Hmmm, gets me thinking! To read the article yourself (or hear it in audio) just click HERE

Another interesting thing that was featured, were NPR listener letters – where they are debating where the saying yada, yada, YADA comes from. Nope, I won't tell you here, you have to go listen yourself – just click HERE – its the second article on the audio file.

Anyone recognize this neat decoration?

I would like to thank blog reader Gayle, for pointing out to me that our vintage stocking (photo previous entry) says XMAS on it. Truly, I was not aware of this – amazing hey, you can walk by something every day and not catch something big like this? I personally never use the word XMAS and so it surprized me to see it. So, I had to do some research about this. I found out that The X in Xmas is actually the greek letter Chi, which was a common abbreviation of Kristos, Christ's name. It is interesting to note, however, that the American Heritage English Dictionary does have the following Usage Note: The abbreviation Xmas has been used for hundreds of years. In modern use it is considered informal and appropriate only in such commercial contexts as advertisements and signs.

The Miriam-Webster dictionary also defines the X as Christ too.

So.... I always choose to use Christmas on anything that I make or send – and should I see something with XMAS on it I'm going to assume its being used as a (poor) substitute. I won't get up in arms about it for I know that most people think the same way. I think this is a great opportunity to start talking about keeping the Christ in Christmas – for what if all the people who don't necessarily believe in our Christ chose not to use the word Christ in Christmas, and to only use XMAS ... there might be a lot less Christmas things around! I think, with love, we can win some XMAS'ers over – like me, they may not have thought about it too much before. What about you – do you find this terribly upsetting – or could you find it a way to open up talk?

I found out this this is a Noma Tulip bubble light!

I'd like to share a beautiful hymn by Joseph Addison:

The spacious firmanent on high,

With all the blue ethereal sky,

And spangled heavens, a shining frame,

Their great Original proclaim:

The unwearied sun, from day to day,

Does his Creator's power display,

And publishes to every land,

The work of the Almighty hand.

Soon as the evening shades prevail,

The moon takes up the wondrous tale,

And nightly to the listening earth,

Repeats the story of her birth:

Whilst all the stars that round her burn,

And all the planets, in their turn,

Confirm the tidings as they roll,

And spread the truth from pole to pole.

Speaking of Christmas Carols, I'd not thought of NEW ones... but there was an article on NPR about some new carols – there is actually a contest for them. They are really glorious! If you would like to listen, just click HERE.

I will leave you with this wonderful clip from I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas.
