Simon Says Monday Challenge

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge – Gentlemen

I had a “manly” card to make for a man and so this challenge segues nicely with this theme!

SSM---Gentleman-1-Barb-Derksen

Still trying to play with my Tim Holtz Distress Inks.  I cut six pieces of cardstock to fit the card base.  Next I chose a simple Studio G pattern stamp and used embossing with clear on each square.  I chose Crushed Olive, Tumbled Glass and Ripe Persimmon inks and after this I edged each rectangle with Pumice Stone.  I fixed each square onto bright white cardstock and glued them to the card base.

I stamped the Get Well Soon by Hero ArtsHero Arts with black Versamark ink and then added clear emboss over this and again the Studio G patterned around the edges.  After heat embossing I brushed the edges with the Tumbled Glass Distress Ink.  I backed the sentiment with black cardstock, under which I used glue dots to fix the olive colored twine in place.  I added some gems at the end!

Hope you enjoyed your visit here!

Simon Says Monday Card ‘ticket’ and 365 Photo of the Day

Check out today’s Simon Says Monday challenge – the theme is ‘Ticket Please’

I whipped up this card:

SSM---Ticket-Barb-Derksen

I mostly wanted to use three main ingredients – KimB’s Simple Pleasures Kit from The Digital Press, and use this Forever in Time ticket stamp which I recently bought and then add the little anchor which was given to me.  The wave graphic is from Kim’s kit, as well as the sentiment.  The polka dot paper is from American Crafts.

The machine is BIG and vintage and all heavy heavy metal and the blade is SHARP!

No, I’m not losing my marbles.

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge – B is for…

SSS---B-is-for-BIRD-Barb-Derksen-1

Obviously I’ve chosen to go along with the “B is for BIRD” idea as I’ve been wanting to use this stamp set for a while.  I thought I’d just keep it simple.

Supplies:

Branches (I cut sections off of) Silhouette online store, Designer Paper Teresa Collins, Stamps Recollections.

Simon Card, 365 photo & a FREEBIE cutting file!

365 Photo for today (and a lovely poem to bring a smile as well)

HAPPINESS

Happiness is like a crystal,

Fair and exquisite and clear,

Broken in a million pieces,

Shattered, scattered far and near.

Now and then along life’s pathway,

Lo! Let some shining fragments fall;

But there are so many pieces

No one ever finds them all.

You may find a bit of beauty,

Or an honest share of wealth,

While another beside you

Gathers honor, love or health.

Vain to choose or grasp unduly,

Broken is the perfect ball;

And there are so many pieces

No one ever finds them all.

Yet the wise as on they journey

Treasure every fragment clear,

Fit them as they may together,

Imagining the shattered sphere,

Learning to be ever thankful,

Though their share of it is small;

For it has so many pieces

No one ever finds them all.

Simon Says Stamp Monday Card Challenge – Clover (I decided to go with the clover itself)

SMS-Challenge---Clover-Barb-Derksen-1

I chose to keep my card super simple with the clover (guess a shamrock counts, though I didn’t take the time to check if they are one and the same)  I used hunted and pecked through my stamps to find what I wanted to say.  The LUCKY is composed of individual letters from a Ki alphabet stamp set, the YOU’RE was 1/2 of a sentiment stamp from Michael Strong’s “Cloisonne Words and Phrases” (do you ever use just a partial portion of a stamp for your projects?)  and the MY FRIEND is from Stampendous.

And the lucky four leaf clover / aka shamrock is my own design. It’s a two layered cutting file and by gosh since I took the time to design it I may as well share it with you to enjoy as well.  The top layer has fold lines made into it so you can prop the petals up to look 3d.  (the reason mine is shiny is because I spritzed it with Goosebumps after I cut it)

Simon Says Monday Challenge & a FREE cutting file!

I just ♥ when a challenge comes along the exact time I’m thinking up a new creation in my head.  This is just what happened when I saw this Monday’s Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge and the theme is No Rules.

I decided to step up to the plate with a new cutting design I dreamed up in my head and will also offer it to you today too!

Gift-Box-with-Tags-prev-4-Barb-Derksen

I decided to create this gift box and little gift tags set from the ground up.  I thunk it all up in the night as I fell off to sleep.

After I designed this cut for your Silhouette cutting machine (I have a Cameo) I made a few tweaks and then added these darling little gift tags as well.  This designer paper I chose “Fanciful Be You” by Junkitz is double sided so I added a piece of plain pink copy paper to the inside so the tags can be written in.  If you’re using one sided paper you won’t have to.

And after the tags were all assembled with bits of twine (you might choose ribbon or sometimes I find crochet cotton is perfect for this as it comes in many colors and is inexpensive. Without further ado, here is the cutting file for you to enjoy.  I hope you’ll send folks here to download this FREEBIE – I do love a little comment ♥ if I must say.  Its like a hug for creating and sharing!

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - “A Cameo Appearance”

I was so excited to see this challenge because I have had a Hero Arts stamp that I’ve wanted to show off… like forever!

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - “A Cameo Appearance”

And here is what was in my mind (the cameo being this women’s face, of course)

Umbrella 1_Barb Derksen

Oh my, where do I even begin on this one.  I used so many things.  The basic stamp for HER is from Hero Arts.  The other stamps are mostly a mix of Studio G.

Umbrella-3_Barb-Derksen

I stamped and embossed her, gave her some lipstick too!  The umbrella is constructed of my husband’s cast off guitar strings while the rain drops are glossy accents.

Thanks for visiting me!
