Catch a Wave Card

TMS440-Barb-Derksen

Sometimes I make a card for the sheer fun of it, and this is one.  Because, I really have nobody in mind at the moment who this could make sense to.  I mean I do know people who live near the ocean and even some who are going on vacations near oceans but I won’t be there with them so they can’t catch a wave “with me”  but I’m sure one day this card will find its way to the perfect person at the ideal time. Do YOU ever make a “just because you’re inspired” card?  At any rate, I was inspired to take this week’s Tuesday Morning Sketches (joined by Nina and Judy who are family who create with me)  Only, I’m more than a few days after the Tuesday we created together.  This week’s sketch looked like this:

I Used Designer Paper from the “Coastal” premium stack by DCWV, Stamps and Die Cuts by Sizzix, Sequins by Pretty Pink Posh and Simon Says and the cool silvery Sea Horse from K & C Company.

Thanks for stopping by!

Thinking of You Floral Card

TMS406-Barb-Derksen-1

Since its been forever and EVER since I’ve blogged – or crafted even, I decided to jump in while I had a few moments between household chores this morning.

TMS406-Barb-Derksen-2

How fitting I found Tuesday Morning Sketches #406 appealed to me right away:

My card came together almost by itself as I had set aside pretty supplies I’d not had a chance to play with.  Without further ado here are the supplies used.  I used a white cardstock base, die cut the bottom layer using a Simon Says Stamp stitched die cut.  I layered a slice of Pocket Blossom designer paper by DCWV (purchased at Michaels) I stamped the sentiment with a Paper Smooches Stamp and then die cut and embbossed with Art-C stamp and cut.  I added a bit of tiny sequined twine from my ribbons stash.

I like the gold foil accents on the teensy floral pattern in the DP which is complemented by the sequins.

Thanks for visiting.  I hope to post some photos and just plain chatter here in the coming days because frankly, I miss it!

A Masculine Birthday Card

Despite a busy busy week I squeaked in a challenge card –

TMS372-Barb-Derksen

I used this week’s Tuesday Morning Sketches challenge #374.

I simply layered this card up and up.  DP – La Creme Matstack, Stamps – Paper Smooches and Finnabair Clear Stamp in Versafine Onyx.

HOPEFULLY will get more time to create over this weekend!

Leafy Friendship Card

TMS371-Barb-Derksen

I based this card on this week’s Tuesday Morning Sketches #371

I wish you could FEEL this “playday” designer paper by  s.e.i. becuase it has felt on all the brown bits and the base cardstock is striped in ridges.  I used a stamp by Flourishes  I layered everything up and added a few fussy cut leaves to the sentiment rectangle.  The final touch was the thin ribbon tied through a chipboard button which I covered to match.

I believe that fall has really arrived today by the feel of it.  There’s a brisk wind blowing off the lake here in Osoyoos and tugging all the leaves from the fruit trees in the orchard.  The water becomes a deep blue when it turns cool.  I think I’ll go for a walk to clear my head after a marathon morning of tasks and creating – my only decision will be weather to walk into or against the wind when I go.  What would YOU do?

Spring Photos and TMS card

TMS349---Barb-Derksen

I needed to make a “Thinking of You” card and I thought I’d pair it up with a challenge.  Lucky for me today’s Tuesday Morning Sketches #349 Challenge is a perfect fit for my creative thinking today:

Lucky for me, the designer paper I chose did all the “polka-dotting” for me.  It is “amplified” by American Crafts. My sentiment is from Penny Black – the “eloquence” set. All I had to do was add some distress ink around the sentiment, pop a couple of teeny tiny diamonds on the “i”s on the sentiment and add some twine and wool in coordinating colors.

Thanks so much for stopping by – I’ll leave you with a couple of random springtime pictures I’ve taken recently:

My Tuesday Morning Sketches 344 card

TMS344---Barb-Derksen

I teamed up with my Sister in Law Judy to try this week’s Tuesday Morning Sketches #344 card challenge.

I simply layered and layered black and white cardstock with alternating layers of bold purple polka-dot and yellow glittery cardstock.  I added the bold sentiment in the center – from Forever in Time, embossing some parts and coloring the same as the background layers using my TomBows (thats when you’re happy you saved up and bought the WHOLE set one Christmas…)  Finally, I had just been given the ribbon yesterday at church from a friend, and in reality its burgundy and white but i went over it with my TomBow markers to match!

I made this card for a friend who always dresses in eye popping colors, bold patterns and so very tastefully – she is not afraid to “Be Herself!”

Thank you for coming by today!

PS – I WILL be doing a lot of commenting in the coming day.

Tuesday Morning Sketches #335 Card

Yeah yeah, I know yesterday was officially "Blue Monday" - and it affects me in a big way and I have to work very hard to dispel the heavy mantle of mid-winterness - full on here in (supposed to be) Sunny Osoyoos BC.  I think I've seen the sun peep out only twice in the the past two weeks.  I feel like I'm wearing dark glasses and my head feels full of cotton and weight presses on my eyes.  I refuse to give in, I make some small manageable goals each day and stick to them.  I can't change the weather but I don't have to be controlled by it either.

One thing which is brings a bit of sparkle into my day and which I thoroughly enjoy is creating - so my reward for reaching my goals in any day is to allow myself to play!  Today I teamed up with my Sister in Law Judy as we took the

Tuesday Morning Sketches #335 Card Challenge

Lots of scallops and shapes to work with, loving layers too!

I chose to go with an embossed white background - to be fair I should always mark my folders... I don't know but I think this one is by Elizabeth Craft.  The scallop cuts were created on my Silhouette Cameo.  Both stamps are Stampin' Up.  I embossed the bloom and embossed it with a gold glitter.

I have been waiting to use these sparkly washi tapes forever and a day... well cloudy, gloomy doomy day was today, and it really did chase my blues away!  I punched the two tiny hearts out of the scraps!

I wish you sunshine wherever you are (and please send me some too!)

TMS Challenge Card

Tuesday Morning Sketches #330 Card

Here’s my card:

TMS-330-1---Barb-Derksen

This was a great project to pull all my scraps together and use them up.

TMS-330-2---Barb-Derksen

The feature of my card is a stamp by Holiday Trendz, stamped first in black and then laid over with metallic gold embossing.  The rest of my card was a whole lot of layering of cardstock and Designer Paper bits, edged with inks.  The finishing touch is the twinkly gold thread wrapped all over and around.  Fun!

TMS 327 Challenge Card

I had a hankering to do this nice structured card challenge today – (because I’m home, with a COLD and kind of grumpy)

Tuesday Morning Sketches 327

Now I had a very interesting time making this card (and only stamping is the gold embossed JOY stamped with a Holiday Trendz) because (HUGE blushing here…) I have hidden all my Christmas craft supplies on myself.  I had to scrounge around just to find these paper scraps – I will go have a look-see in a few possible places around the house after.  Good sign I need some serious re-organizing round here.  Here is what I managed with my limited supplies:

TMS-327---Barb-Derksen

I’m not un-happy with my result, only would have liked to add in a more hand-colored detail if I could’uv!  I totally understand if my card doesn’t make the cut for the TMS but it was still loads of fun to join in.

Glad you came by – I’ll always come visit everyone who leaves a comment.

While I’m feeling creative,

While the iron is hot, so to speak - I’ll strike,

I’ll make and blog and then later on will be a little folding of the hands and such.

So, I attempted this card

Tuesday Morning Sketches 259

And I managed to make this:

Tuesday Morning Sketches 243 Card

I got a itty bitty window open up to me last week to create and since my sister Nina did too we both created a card for

Tuesday Morning Sketches 243:

This is what I wound up with:

TMS-243-1-Barb-Derksen

Supplies include: My Mind’s Eye 6 x 6 paper pad - “In Bloom”, Diamond Glaze, “with love” stamp by Fiskars, gems by Recollections (Michaels), Wink of Stella

TMS-243-2-Barb-Derksen

I used a lot of layering in this card - all centered around the beautiful floral patterned paper.  I moved a circle cut around on the paper until I had a full “bouquet” isolated and then cut.  I created layers behind that in both a darker and lighter toned cardstock to create some drama.   I painted the blossoms with some clear “Wink of Stella” and whne this was dry I went ahead and added a few layers of Diamond Glaze on top.  Yes, a few bubbles eluded me but it really does look lovely!

The final touch was to stamp a sheer ribbon with the sentiment on it - my ribbon goes all the way across but still…
