Fab Floral for Simon Wednesday Challenge!

This is my simple take on this week’s challenge over on Simon Says Stamp for this Wednesday’s challenge – Fabulous Florals.

All of this week’s design team’s inspiration made me just jump into a card even though I was tired after a day at work.  I was so glad too, as I find creating cards a most relaxing and enjoyable pasttime.  I would even count it as good therapy and good for the soul.

Pretty Shimmery Glimmery card for some Challenges!

I almost never do this, make a card for two challenges at once, but this card just begged to be made and nicely slotted into two different places.  So I’m putting this card up for both Case This Sketch 178 – following this week’s sketch:

As well as entering my card into Simon Says Wednesday – ADD SOME SHIMMER!

I love this designer paper by SEI which is shimmer all in itself.  It’s actually a double sided paper but I chose the soft gradient side.  I stampped the sentiment with “hello” from Paper Smooches and placed it in a frame from Stampin’ Up. I punched it out and glued it over some white crochet twine. 

The finishing shimmery glimmery touch are these lovely chipboard florals by K & C Company. I placed both a sequin and a teeny tiny gem in the middle of each  for maximum bling!

Simon Says Wednesday Anything Goes!

Well – since it is “Anything Goes” for Simon Says Stamp Wednesday I went wild!

I embossed the Stampin’ Up florals using white embossing powder and then I was a little crazy with  Tim Holtz distress inks.  I wanted to use up a piece of white corregated cardboard from a cookie package so I ran some of these pearl chain beads along it.  They are hard to see in this photo, but they are dark with pearly shades of mauve, pink and green.   The butterfly is a die cut (Memory Box)  from dark glitter paper, highlighted with Wink of Stella. The “I am so Sorry” Sentiment is Penny Black

Simon Says Wednesday Card - "Critters"

Wow, I'm fitting in a lot of creating this week, and funnily (is this even a real word?) enough, I'm getting more than ever accomplished too.  My mind is a whirlwind of art, creating, working out and the annual "Its the new year and I need to do a clean sweep of my house).  Well, the working out and clean sweep go together, really, and the creative side gets "rewards" when the goals are met.  Its a win-win.  "They" say that working out actually stimulates your brain and helps!  Just google that and you'll quickly see how it all goes together.

I have cute critter stamps which have been waiting (barking, baaah-ing, meowing) to be used so I decided to go for this week's theme over at

SIMON SAYS WEDNESDAY "Critters" - Jan 21st 

And I think this is the very first time I've ever peeled this amusing little rooster stamp off it's backing.  How sad is that?

I wish I had some Lawn Fawn products or I would have surely used them.

I do know that I'll definately be using him again!

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday "Ombre" Card Challenge

Oh LA-LA!

I've been just waiting and waiting for a challenge calling for an "Ombre" theme and so I was very excited to find this weeks

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge "Ombre" (January 13, 2016)

So this is a totally inspired create as I had this concept in my mind all along:

The first step of this was to lay down the Ombre background onto my cardstock with Three shades of Tim Holtz distress inks - "barn door" "ripe persimmon" and "tattered rose".  Next I whipped the rest of  this card together by using this pretty butterfly card cut which I believe is directly from the Silhouette Store.  I used a heavier card-stock.  After I got it all cut and knocked out the bits and pieces I decided that it was rather "flat" looking so I ran it through my Cuttlebug embossing it with a Chevron folder from We R Memory Keepers.  

I thought the little blossoms needed something in the middle so placed a little dollar store gem in the middle of each.  The final touch is this tiny "special" word stamp from Stampin' Up.

Simon Says Wednesday Challenge card

Simon Says Wednesday Challenge Nov 25 – “Anything Goes”

How could one go wrong with anything to choose from?  I’d been wanting to try a technique out so tonight was a good time to do this, and double triple bonus with Nina and Judy joining in again. So many inspiring DT samples I was off and running.

I created the “happy” with a stencil I whipped up using my Silhouette Cameo – and I tried to use a few layers of vinyl to allow an edge so that I could watercolour with my Tombow markers in shades which match the designer paper (6 x 6 by Heidi Swapp)  The vinyl stencil on the edge did not remove so easily but in the end gave the lettering a more hand painted look.  I wound up cutting a second offset with a black cardstock to bump the lettering up.  After I added ribbon and a teeny Stampin’ Up birthday then my handsome Mr deemed my card finished and stopped me from going on and making it more complicated.

Simon Says Wednesday card challenge

I’m taking up the challenge for

Simon Says Wednesday for November 19 – the theme is “Christmas” Here’s what I created (after I actually found my festive craft supplies, right in with all of the other Christmas decorations in the house, DUH!)

 

This whimsical stamp featuring this snowman family is from Great Impressions.  The sentiment simply a WalMart.  I colored the image with my TomBow markers and added a bit of Star Gelly Roller and Diamond Glaze to bring the carrot noses and eyes alive!

Simon Says Wednesday “Anything Goes” Card

I find that making a card is my big reward, my relaxation, my happy little place even after working all day, even though I play with paper all day long.  I sneaked this card in over the past day.  I had made a similar card a few weeks ago and loved the technique so thought I’d try it again.  I like that it uses recycled materials (the transparent window)

Supplies: Embossing folder by Darice, Stamp by Forever in Time, 140 lb arches Watercolor paper for stamp, tombow markers, embossing powder, plastic transparency (recycled from product packaging) Pearlescent paints.

Method:

I created a window cut using my Silhouette Cameo for the card front.  I embossed it.  I cut some plastic packaging the same size as my card face and glued it to the back side of the embossed window. I stamped the front of the transparency window with Stayzon Ink, centering it very carefully.  I then stamped the image onto 140 lb watercolor paper using Versafine ink,  then embossed it.  I colored with TomBow markers for the inside of the stained glass looking image, then painted some pearlescent paint on the frame to look sort of gilded.  I glued the watercolored image to the top center of my card base.  I then bumped out the face of the card, lining it up with the image on the card base, but using foam tape so it stands out.  This creates the 3D look for the image.

I finished off with the little ribbon in gold, to reflect the gold of the frame.  I’m leaving this card “as is” for now, though I may add a sentiment on the bottom right at some point when I decide who its intended for.

Ink – I used browns and dabbed it all over to give “texture”

And YAY for YOU because I’m giving this cigar cut away to YOU today.  This cut consists of the cigar itself, the band and a circle.  The band and circles also have an “offset” so you can layer just like I did for the band.  The “M” is not included, that’s a sticker I added myself to personalize this “stogie”  Click on the image above to download the Silhoette Cameo Cutting file.

365 Photos of the Day

Hmmm… seems I still have even one more day of photos of our fun day away at  Molson, Washington after today.  I thought I should display some of the photos my charming husband took.  It never fails he leaves his camera at home but sees and wants all sorts of photos shot (is this bad grammar?)  At any rate, my solution to this was to pass my actual camera off to him (yes, people still use these) while I used my iphone.  We parted and met up an hour later and had a little photo viewing festival later on.   I love how two people can spot entirely different things, and in some cases, the same thing only looked at in a new way. 

My brilliant Mr will be the first to admit to you he’s not so much a “machinery” person, but he does admire a photo opportunity in old contraptions like these.  The weathering lends an air of interest as well.  I think this looks like Steampunk?  It’s a stretch of my mind to think people really used such a machine and thought in that era this was a “modern” marvel!

Now this is the sort of photo I’d expect from a man.  There’s something very eye catching about this!

And this photo is not a surprise.  Other than that I missed this element entirely on my travels! 

And I totally see the appeal of this old house – though I pray he wouldn’t be looking at it like “hmmm, it would be great to live here…”

But the fact Mr Miles took this photo surprised me.  I thought about taking a picture of this woeful gal, gazing off across the plain and thinking “Why doesn’t the wind ever stop? Am I going to live here on this lonely farm forever?”

Two Card Challenges completed! Woo Hoo!

I’ve pulled off not one but TWO card challenges in the past few days despite being extremely busy.  Here we go:

Simon Says “Things that FLY”

I used a fun 6 x 6 paper from Basic Grey “Hey Boy” and I added a silvery airplane I traced and modified and cut out of shiny vinyl..  Next I added some velum cut into cloudshapes and I used some silver daubers and then added some water and pearlescent paint and voila it crackled the clouds to look 3d.  I lined them with a marker so they were more visible.  Next I layered up the Stamped Sentiment by Paper Smooches and tied the plane together with it with some bakers twine. 

The Card Concept #30 “Thinking of YOU”

I used sheet of 6 x 6 from Kristin Cronin Barrow’s Blank Canvas.  I stamped using a Hero Arts sentiment and washed over the middle part with Orange Tom Bow. 

I’ve had these sweet paper flowers around for a while – I made them myself and kind of forgot them in a drawer.  I hand cut the leaves.
