Spooky Creepy Card

I admit I don’t usually get Halloween cards made but I found myself with the time, supplies and inclination (and a family to gift it to) so, this week when I saw the CAS(E) this sketch #295 Challenge I decided I’d take the plunge.  I flipped the sketch upside down for my project.  I stamped the sentiment onto black cardstock and embossed with Stampendous Stamp-N Stuff Detail White embossing powder.  I stamped the beakers and bottles and potions stamp from Recollections (Michaels) Halloween collection.  I used Versafine Black and then embossed with clear. I colored the “potions” in using Tombow markers.  For a final touch I added “cobwebs” of white sewing cotton.

Elegant Birthday Card & Dreary January

I feel like I finally hit my creative stride again – YAY!  This first card (and opportunity to craft time online with my sister Nina and sister in law Judy in 2017.  I chose to  make a card for the Case This Sketch January 19th challenge

 

I felt a deep satisfaction as this card almost built itself, layer upon layer.  You know how it is when you’ve not had a chance to do something for a bit – you are fearful you’ll forget!  I used:

Super fine marker

Wink of Stella marker – Silver

Crochet thread

I let the paper do much of the work and as focal point of the facade.  I simply traced some of the blossoms using a super fine ink pen and then added subtle glitter using Wink of Stella. 

This has been a long, chilly winter until now, with the lake frozen over. My husband watched some coyotes navigate the icy shore yesterday morning.  The temperatures have been sub-zero quite a bit, however, the past few days have been very soggy.  Rain, snow, rain snowrainsnow.  The ice is melting and unreliable.  The rural driveways a soggy slick mess.  The skies an unchanging dull steel gray with heavy clouds pressing us into the valley.  Thankfully the weather is said to take a somewhat more cheerful change this week.  I’ll keep you posted!

A “Rosey” Birthday Card

Ouch! – it has been over a month since my last post!  After being away to Calgary (brrr!) then Houston Tx and San Antonio (ahhh!) then back to Calgary (double brrr!) then home (where its pretty cold now too) I’ve now had a few days to unwind and adjust to time changes and get my feet under me.  I managed to get my craft area back in order as I’d abandoned it in a despicable state before leaving – and I settled in to make a card!  Ahhh, my happy zone.  I decided to make a card based on the CAS(e) This Sketch #201 challenge:

I chose to cut these gardenias (close to a rose, right?  This card is going to a Rose…)  I die cut them ( Memory Box)out of a sparkly pink glitter paper.  I laid down a base of Tim Holtz distress inks before gluing the florals.  I finished it all off with a sentiment from Your Next Stamp. 

I think I should get myself in gear and post at least a few times this coming week!

Yay, back in my craft room!

Its so very good to be home – again. Life had me hopping all over the place this summer to Calgary, Houston TX and then down to Abbotsford. Its hard to take it all in.  I had a beautiful time visiting family and friends and loving on (one of my two) grandbabies!  I finally arrived home early on Wednesday morning, really early because Greyhound has changed its bus hours and routes effectively excluding any daytime trip from Abbotsford to Osoyoos so I had to travel from 1:30 a.m. to 5:30 when my gallant prince picked me up in Keremeos (a 40 minute drive from home but saved me from the extra stops the bus would make which would make it much later)  Arriving home I had barely an hour and a half to sleep (um hmm, had a middle seat on the bus, was not going to nod off on a stranger’s shoulder) and then I had to go to work for the day.  I was very sleepy and when I got home I basically hugged my honey, ate dinner and then flaked out for a good 14 hours.  Wow.  But I’ve shooken it off after a repeat work sleep day and now I spent today getting my own house back in order and used a bit of crafting time as my “carrot”

I’m based my card today’s CASe This Sketch #189 Challenge:

I was so excited to use this beautiful “Thanks” set of acrylic stamps from Honey Bee Stamps which I purchased using a gift certificate I recieved forever ago…  I’m feeling like the sets I bought are going to be favorites, the images and words are so interchangable.

I stamped the “thank you” onto a strip of thick plastic – a slice of a plastic cutting board, actually.  The idea just came to me as I was searching in my supplies.  I used StayzOn ink so it stick and not smudge, while I used versafine for the “so much” which I placed on the circle.  I couldn’t help but sneak a teeny butterfly into one of the circles in too, can you spot it?   The designer paper is “on a whimsy” by Jacky Eckles for Fancy Pants Design, which I layerd up onto a black cardstock base. 

I used foam tape with double sided tape and foam tape and a bit of of the cardbase cardstock to add a little height to the plastic sentiment layer.  Voila, a successful first card today.

Case This Sketch #78 Card

I’m on a roll.   Nooooo, not a dinner roll, nor do I have an inch or two extra body fat muffining, rather I am enjoying a series of enjoyable and successful card making sessions so I’m going to go at it until I fall over, run out of supplies or all my creative juices are sucked outta me.  And because I get to post with my sister Nina and SIL Judy too.  How can you beat that? Its a family thing.

Case This Sketch #78

I thought this looked interesting and it turned out fine.  I rotated the sketch totally 180 for my own project.

I really wish I could tell you which designer paper this is but it was a random bit from my leftovers bin.  I matched it up with a nice frame set from the Silhouette online store. 

My three “lines” are actually bits of rick rack and edging from my sewing kit.  The ones underneath are laid plain sides in, then glued and when that was dry I added the brown rick-rack. 

Today’s small thing is a pretty tree sparrow I managed to stand still enough to take a picture of.  Enjoy!

The designer paper - Bo Bunny, the sentiment Studio G.  The Gems, Recollections and my fave part of all…

- its SO hard to see, but if you look carefully around the far wing you will see the sweet shimmer of a Wink of Stella brush.  These brushes are made for precision and add that sweet “something” to your favourite projects.
